Manic Music is a production company with premises in Phoenix Square - right in the middle of Leicester’s cultural quarter!

We’re a music production company based in Phoenix Square in the Leicester Cultural Quarter. Workspace 26 & 27.
Matt Cotterill

Matt is a versatile music producer who works with artists and bands as well as composing music for visual media. 


Passionate about a wide variety of music, he specialises in rock, acoustic and pop production and composes with a modern classical style. Matt understands the making of a great recording and has the ability to get the best out of your band. He can help with every aspect of the production process through song development, recording, mixing & mastering. 


Matt graduated in 2009 with First Class Honours in Commercial Music. He has since worked with a variety of clients in the music and film industries including: Warwickshire College; Go Primitive; Klash Music Management; Proof Studio and MindRiot Productions who have recognised his knowledge, sensitivity to brief and commitment.


Matt works in Logic Pro and has a well equipped setup packed with soft-synths, virtual orchestras & drums as well as some of the best plugins around. Matt began freelancing with Manic Music Productions in February 2011. He can record in studios of all sizes and locations, but has a well established relationship with Flipside Recording Studios in Coventry, who are his preferred studio for recording bigger projects. 

Jed Spittle

Jed is the Managing Director of Manic Music Productions ltd. and a long-term veteran of the music industry. A graduate of the Guildford School of Acting he appeared in various stage musicals as a professional actor before becoming involved with songwriting in the 1990s. Working on a number of projects alongside established industry stalwarts such as “Air Edel”, “chop-em-out” and the “Sanctuary Music Group”, he has written for individual artists, bands and musical theatre.


From a business perspective he also has extensive management experience having worked as a consultant project manager and business analyst for one of the worlds largest companies. This unusual combination of creative and business backgrounds gives him a unique perspective and provides the driving force behind the company.


Jed is also passionate about finding and helping emerging talent from the East Midlands and to this end has been instrumental in supporting Matthew with the setting up of Next Wave, a young persons performance platform, hosted by Manic Music Productions, at Phoenix Square.

Maryann and Michael

Maryann and Michael are two signed Scottish composers that write music for Film, TV, Corporate Video and Adverts. Their clients have included Rank Hovis, Media Reach, M&S, Alcatel, The ONE Show, Nike and have scored music for Documentaries on the BBC and Channel5.


Maryann attended the Guildhall School of Music and Michael attended Alchemea College of Audio Engineering. They have had experience of working with recording artists and presenting them to Record Labels and producing bands in high end studios.


Films they have composed for have been shown at festivals around the world including Cannes, New York, London, Berlin and they also worked for a season at the Royal Shakespeare Company.


Mikey Shine


A deeply passionate musician and international performing and recording artist since 2004 with Happy Mondays and Shaun William Ryder (SWR), Mikey has undertaken tours of the UK, East and West Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, as well as performing on both TV and Radio. He has a number of published recordings worldwide on DVD, CD and electronic media. Prior to joining the Happy Mondays he had already made festival appearances at Glastonbury and the Edinburgh fringe with AKA Weave and in 2006 became founder member and Lead Guitarist of The Deap People.


A Leicester lad, with a passion for the local scene, Mikey has also been an enthusiastic and proven provider of individual music tuition for guitar and bass since 2006. Covering all proficiency levels and a wide range of styles, his lessons can include composition, guitar tablature, arrangement, song writing and recording and deliver a rounded and enriching experience for the student.
